The University of Sussex International Office team are responsible for identifying opportunities and developing and implementing the University’s strategy for international cooperation and student recruitment. Sussex’s 2025 strategy sets ambitious goals for the international team and for the enhanced recruitment of a diverse group of overseas students to our campus. With that in mind, we are working to maintain recent growth; together with colleagues from academic schools and departments.

Key responsibilities:
  • To represent the client at recruitment and outreach events (both online and in person), providing a professional and accurate representation of the University to prospective students, their parents, and counsellors.
  • Provide prompt, comprehensive, accurate information and advice to education agents, and students who apply to study at international universities.
  • Provide student counselling support and advise them on the admission process and university updates. Follow up on matters like offer acceptance, additional document requirements, and other admission-related matters via telephone, email, and face-to-face interactions.
  • Maintain excellent ‘customer service’ by answering all inquiries from prospective students and parents interacted with during recruitment fairs. Proactively initiate follow-up contact with inquirer database and leads collected in a timely manner.
  • Build effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders in the education sector such as agent partners, partner universities, and sector-wide organisations.
  • Attend education events, tradeshows, conferences, webinars, and virtual events and represent the university as and when required.
  • Maintain engagement and actively support agents and other key channel partners. This will include providing information, training, and a high level of customer service.
  • Engage in social media activities and online training as per the client’s requirement.
  • Liaise and coordinate with appropriate internal teams for administrative issues.
  • Provide support in the form of online research, gathering market intelligence, information management, updating databases, presentations, events, and conferences.
  • Book venues for events and schedule visits for university representatives including sending confirmations, pre-booking hotel, and arranging ground transportation, and freight as necessary.
  • Identification of school networks across India for the purposes of undergraduate recruitment.
  • Responsible for building and maintaining excellent relationships with schools and colleges in key regions.
Person Specification:
  • Knowledge of the higher education industry, with knowledge of the UK higher education system desirable
  • Knowledge of the Indian secondary and tertiary education systems
  • Experience in event planning or program administration
  • Experience presenting and public speaking
  • Experience working in student or customer-facing roles
  • Willingness and ability to work independently
  • Willingness and ability to work off-hours to accommodate time zones covered by the International Office
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly (across India and abroad) including on weekends and evenings
  • Experience working with international clients
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree
  • Proficiency in the use of all MS Office applications
  • Prior experience of a minimum of 2-3 years working within a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system
